About us

Macarthur Dog Training Club offering the greater Macarthur area an alternative, gentle, motivation based Canine Obedience training.

First established as an independent club in 1978. Macarthur's earliest known recorded Obedience trial was held in 1982. Macarthur converted to Motivational Training Methods in 1996.

The great thing about being a member of Macarthur Dog Training Club is you not only end up with a four legged, wet nosed, droopy tongued, fury, well adjusted, happy, obedience member of your family, you also get to meet many new friends with exactly the same hopes, wishes and expectations for their beloved pooch, as you have.

Macarthur offers its members obedience training from the very basics of heeling on lead, sit, stand and drop on command to the elite levels of competition obedience. We offer our advanced handlers the use of training rings for CCD, Novice, Open and Utility levels.

The advantage of being a member of Macarthur Dog Training Club is that there are no set course times, you come whenever you want, take time off whenever you want and pick up again right where you left off. You are always with other people and their dogs that are at the same experience level as yourself.

Members are encouraged to participate in club events such as the end of year games night, and in community events such as the Fishers Ghost Parade and Obedience demonstrations.

At Macarthur we hope to foster an atmosphere of openness, encouraging members to voice their own opinions on training methods and better ways we may pass our many years of varied experience on to the new obedience handlers.

So if you're only interested in having a dog that you can walk down the street without being dragged along or have aspirations of greatness in the trial ring, why not come and see us and see if we can offer you what you need.

MACARTHUR DOG TRAINING CLUB INC
A HISTORY - 1968 TO 2010top

To talk about the history of Macarthur Dog Training Club as it is today we must first remember where our clubs roots began.

Prior to 1978 there was no such oganisation as the Macarthur Dog Training Club in Campbelltown. Our founder "Werriwa All Breeds Dog Training Club" had been running its obedience classes from as far back as December 1965
at Landa Park.

January 1966
Werriwa ABDTC transfers to Woodward Park, Liverpool.

Monday evening 18th November, training sessions commenced at the Campbelltown Showground. After a short stay at the Showground however
an application was made for a more permanent ground at Bradbury Oval.

October 1971
Werriwa A.B.D.T.C. outgrew Clinches Pond and moved to its now permanent home at Freeman Oval, Warwick Farm.

August 1975
Monday the 4th, Werriwa's Campbelltown Sub-Branch started training at Bradbury Oval.

April 1978
It is resolved to call a meeting to officially dissolve the sub-branch and allow the Campbelltown group to form their own training club. Application for Affiliation with RASKC is submitted. The new club would be known as Macarthur Dog Training Club. The colours Green and White were accepted as the official Club Colours.

1982
For a short time Macarthur changes from Monday night training at Bradbury Oval to Sunday mornings at the Masonic Club in Narrellan. Macarthur's Annual Trial was held at Campbelltown Masonic Club grounds.

1983
The Supplementary Register (SR) Class in Obedience is officially introduced.
Campbelltown Council is contact in regard to availability of a training ground with lights. Leumeah High School or Bradbury Oval was suggested.

1984
Move to Monday night training at Bradbury Oval. Hurley Park used for Fishers Ghost transfer. Trial held at Werriwa All Breeds Dog Training Club.

1990
Macarthur DTC Logo changes

1996
Macarthur DTC changes its training methods from check chain to food motivation methods.
In April Campbelltown Council asks Macarthur if they want to move to Clarke Reserve or stay at Bradbury?

1997
February, Macarthur moves to Clarke Oval.
